Cazzolato School of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Adelaide SA 5005, AUSTRALIA *Process Engineering and Instrumentation Cell, CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology, Bhubaneswar, India [email protected], [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Abstract: In this paper, a feed-forward nonlinear active noise control algorithm is developed using the Filtered-s LMS (FSLMS) algorithm and virtual microphone control for an active headrest application. Virtual microphone control is implemented to attenuate noise at the ears of the headrest occupant using the physical microphones placed at remote locations. The proposed nonlinear virtual microphone control algorithm is verified in real-time in a headrest. Different nonlinear noise processes are studied and it is shown that in all cases, the FSLMS algorithm outperforms the FXLMS algorithm in controlling nonlinear primary noise at a virtual location.

The spatial properties and local active control of road noise

The spatial performance of local active control systems depends on the correlation properties of the primary sound field. Previously this sound field has generally been assumed to be diffuse when simulating active control performance. In this study the spatial properties of the primary sound field due to road noise in a car were measured using the spectral density matrix calculated from the out...

Adjoint nonlinear active noise control algorithm for virtual microphone

Controlling nonlinear noise processes at a virtual location involves higher computational complexity compared to traditional active noise control (ANC) at a physical sensor. In an attempt to reduce the computational burden, a filtered-error LMS based ANC algorithm is proposed in this paper for controlling a nonlinear noise process at a virtual location. The filtered-error based algorithm using ...

Active noise control at a moving virtual microphone using the SOTDF moving virtual sensing method

Traditional local active noise control systems minimise the measured acoustic sound pressure to generate a zone of quiet at a physical error sensor. The resulting zone of quiet is generally limited in size and as such, placement of a physical error sensor at the location of desired attenuation is required, which is often inconvenient. Virtual acoustic sensors can be used to project the zone of ...

A nonlinear active noise control algorithm for virtual microphones controlling chaotic noise.

In active noise control (ANC) systems, virtual microphones provide a means of projecting the zone of quiet away from the physical microphone to a remote location. To date, linear ANC algorithms, such as the filtered-x least mean square (FXLMS) algorithm, have been used with virtual sensing techniques. In this paper, a nonlinear ANC algorithm is developed for a virtual microphone by integrating ...

Subjective evaluation of actively controlled interior car noise

This work is a preliminary study which focused on subjective improvements of vehicle interior noise by using active noise control techniques. A local active noise control system has been mounted inside a room in order to reduce synthesized and real engine noise in the area around the headrest of a typical car seat. Recordings before and after cancellation have been made using a Head Acoustics m...
